Sebastian Canon Urrutia's practice focuses on representing corporate entities as well as States and State-owned entities in international commercial arbitrations and investor-State arbitrations before tribunals established under the auspices of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the United Nations Commission for International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), among others. He has experience working on cases involving a variety of economic sectors, such as mining, oil and natural gas, infrastructure, hospitality, and real estate. In 2021, Sebastian was recognized by The Legal 500 in International Arbitration.
Sebastian studied law at Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and received his LL.M. degree and Certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (with honors) from Georgetown University Law Center in 2018. Prior to joining the firm, Sebastian was an associate in the international arbitration group at an American law firm in Washington, D.C. He also interned at ICSID, and was the head of the litigation department at a Uruguayan law firm. Sebastian is a native Spanish speaker and has working knowledge of Portuguese.
