Susan Kopf's practice focuses on advising a wide range of tax-exempt organizations including private foundations, hospitals, health systems, colleges & universities, other public charities, and business leagues with a variety of operational and regulatory matters, including obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status, tax-exempt bond compliance, board governance, lobbying, unrelated business income, 501(r) requirements, and charitable giving.

Susan has significant tax-exempt industry experience from her nine years serving as the Assistant Vice President of Tax at MedStar Health Inc., the largest healthcare provider in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. region. While there, she managed all aspects of tax advisory and compliance services, including tax-exempt bond financings, charitable registrations, and system audits. Prior to that role, Susan was a Tax Manager at Ernst & Young where she was responsible for coordinating the delivery of and providing tax consulting and compliance services to a wide variety of tax-exempt clients.

Susan received her LL.M. from the Georgetown University Law Center and her J.D. from the Syracuse University College of Law, where she was a founding member of the Tax Society and a team member of the Albert R. Mugel National Tax Moot Court Competition.
