Nancy Perkins has a diverse practice in the areas of privacy, data security, and national security. Nancy assists clients in structuring their transactions, contracts, online service offerings, and privacy policies to comply with data protection requirements at the federal and state levels, including those related to classified information. She frequently counsels clients on the privacy and data security requirements of federal laws such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, as well as the expanding number of state privacy, data security, and data breach notification laws and regulations. Nancy guides clients through data security breach processes, including providing breach notifications to affected individuals, government authorities, and the media, as well as handling government investigations and any follow-on litigation.

Nancy has extensive experience representing clients in national security matters involving foreign investments, facility and personnel security clearances, and mitigating risks relating to foreign ownership, control, or influence over government contractors working with classified information. She has handled dozens of proceedings before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA), and has established relationships with both the CFIUS and DCSA staffs. She has worked with clients in their negotiations with DCSA of Proxy Agreements, Special Security Agreements, and Security Control Agreements, and the implementation of various security controls and administrative mechanisms attendant to such agreements.

Nancy also has a deep background in international law and advises clients on the cross-border transfers of personal data, including under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulations, as well as broader issues arising under the rapidly developing framework for global legal protection of personal information.
