Navigating Today's Privacy Laws Around the World
Global data protection regulations and obligations continue to evolve rapidly across the world as data continues to sprawl across geographies. In just the past few months, the European Commission published new Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for transfers of personal data from the European Union to third countries, EU data protection authorities imposed major GDPR fines and the UK launched a public consultation on updates to international data transfer tools and guidance. Additionally, China introduced its Personal Information Protection Law, Brazil's year-old General Data Protection Law's penalties became enforceable and, in the US, Colorado and Virginia joined California in enacting comprehensive consumer privacy laws.
