Privacy, Cybersecurity & Data Strategy Chair Jami Vibbert recently spoke to Bloomberg Law about corporate America reducing or reshuffling chief privacy officer roles.

In the article, "Privacy Chiefs Vanish From C-Suites as Data Threats Surge," Vibbert cautioned against eliminating the position, as it raises concerns about who will oversee privacy programs — an issue compounded by the ever-growing risk of data breaches from sophisticated hackers, the increase in state laws, and more proactive enforcement by federal regulators.

"It's a dangerous time to be making big changes like that," said Vibbert, noting how executive privacy leadership was crucial in mitigating previous high-profile crises. "For organizations that eliminate that role or try to combine it with a role that maybe has less privacy expertise, I definitely think there's going be backlash because something is going to happen."
