Health Payer Specialist Speaks With Christian Sheehan on Qui Tam Lawsuits

White Collar Defense & Investigations partner Christian Sheehan was recently quoted in the Health Payer Specialist article, “DOJ to Uphold Whistleblower Act in Centene, Anthem Medicaid Fraud Suit Motion.” The article discusses an Indiana Medicaid fraud case in which the Department of Justice intervened to defend the qui tam whistleblower provisions of the False Claims Act (FCA).

According to Sheehan, “there have been a number of challenges and people have been wondering how the Trump administration would act.” The DOJ’s intervention in this case comes after Attorney General Pam Bondi stated at her confirmation hearing that she will uphold the use of the FCA, he noted.

Sheehan also addressed the broader landscape of FCA cases, emphasizing their financial impact on the government. “It's a significant weapon for the DOJ,” he remarked, referencing the $1.67 billion in healthcare fraud recoveries last year.
