Former US Senator Christopher J. Dodd Joins Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer
WASHINGTON, DC, January 16, 2018 -- Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP announced today that Senator Christopher J. Dodd has joined the firm as Senior Counsel.
Senator Dodd is the longest serving US Senator in the State of Connecticut's history, having been elected to five consecutive terms in the US Senate (and previously in the US House of Representatives for three terms). During his tenure, Senator Dodd was Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and served on the Committees on Foreign Relations and Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, among others. While in Congress, Senator Dodd was a principal author of numerous bills that became law, including the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Child Care Act, and the Help America Vote Act, among others, and he was deeply involved in the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
In March of 2011, Senator Dodd joined the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure, he helped move MPAA into the digital age, including spearheading content protection and anti-piracy initiatives, along with expanding the access of US films and television programs to China and other international markets.
"Senator Dodd is widely respected in the business community and on Capitol Hill for his expertise and ability to work with colleagues from both parties," said Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer Chair Richard M. Alexander. "He will be an effective strategic advisor and valued counselor to clients on a wide range of important legislative and policy issues. They include those affecting financial services, media and entertainment, intellectual property and data privacy, telecommunications, healthcare, national security, trade, sovereigns, and more."
"I am delighted to become part of the exceptional team at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer," said Dodd. "I believe that my experience navigating complex governmental, political, and business issues will be of benefit to clients facing challenges in an ever-evolving global economy."
