Arnold & Porter Plays Leading Role in Final Agreement Between Airbus and US, French, and UK Authorities

January 31, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC, January 31, 2020 — Today, Airbus announced that it has reached final agreements with the French Parquet National Financier (PNF), the UK Serious Fraud Office (SFO), and the US Department of Justice (DoJ) resolving the authorities' investigations into allegations of bribery and corruption as well as with the US Department of State (DoS) and the DoJ to resolve their investigations into filings made with the DoS pursuant to the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Arnold & Porter served as lead counsel for the disclosures and settlement with DoS under ITAR and will assist Airbus on implementation of the Consent Agreement with DoS.

Arnold & Porter's John P. Barker, a partner in the firm's National Security practice, said: "We were honored to assist Airbus with this investigation that led to one of the most significant settlements ever under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. Airbus' commitment to transparency with the US authorities and implementation of a comprehensive remediation plan was a cornerstone of this resolution. Companies throughout industry should take note that the settlement recognizes the value of identifying and bringing forward compliance issues and working with government authorities to resolve them to establish a solid foundation for future export licensing and compliance."

The Arnold & Porter team included partner John P. Barker and counsel Nicholas Townsend.
