Arnold & Porter Helps Secure $8 Billion SCOTUS Victory
Arnold & Porter helped secure a significant victory in the US Supreme Court for Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native Corporation that is the nation's largest provider of services to Alaska Natives. The decision ensures that CIRI and other similar entities qualify for up to $8 billion in CARES Act funding for crucial health services, and reaffirms their eligibility for continued participation in federal programs that provide essential support, including food, housing, employment assistance, and early learning services.
The Supreme Court's decision cited and relied upon the amicus brief that Arnold & Porter filed on CIRI's behalf, which stressed the serious adverse impacts that might result from excluding CIRI from CARES Act funding and other programs.
The multidisciplinary Arnold & Porter team was led by Appellate & Supreme Court partner Allon Kedem and Environmental partner Ethan Shenkman and also included Appellate & Supreme Court senior associate Sally Pei.
