Former SDNY Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Cha-Kim Joins Arnold & Porter’s Complex Litigation Practice in New York
New York, NY, July 10, 2023 — Arnold & Porter announced today that Stephen Cha-Kim, former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, has joined the firm’s Complex Litigation practice as a partner, resident in New York.

Cha-Kim brings eight years of experience in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, where he represented the federal government before U.S. District, Bankruptcy and Circuit Courts. During his time at the SDNY, Cha-Kim oversaw all aspects of litigation, trying cases, arguing appeals, and conducting civil investigations. He handled a broad range of matters including constitutional claims; challenges brought under the Administrative Procedure Act; Title VII and ADEA litigation; intellectual property and commercial litigation; international disputes; and investigations for violations of the federal False Claims Act and Clean Air Act.

Cha-Kim earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, his MPhil from Cambridge University, and his B.A. from The University of Chicago, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and as a Student Marshal, the highest undergraduate honor. He clerked for U.S. Magistrate Judge James Cott of the SDNY and U.S. District Judge Edmond Chang of the Northern District of Illinois.
Cha-Kim has also served as Adjunct Professor at New York University School of Law, co-teaching a course on government civil litigation, and at Fordham Law School, where he taught legal writing. Born in Seoul, Cha-Kim speaks Korean as well as French and Spanish.
