Arnold & Porter and Co-Counsel Move to Intervene in Georgia Voting Rights Case
Arnold & Porter and its co-counsel — Advancement Project, Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Southern Poverty Law Center — recently filed a motion to intervene in a pending lawsuit aimed at preventing the removal of over 5,000 Georgia voters from the rolls of the upcoming U.S. presidential election. They also filed a motion to dismiss a suit, which seeks to compel the DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections to hold challenge hearings regarding these voters. The team alleges that such hearings could violate the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
Arnold & Porter and its co-counsel are representing the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP, New Georgia Project, Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda, A. Philip Randolph Institute, Common Cause Georgia, and the League of Women Voters of Georgia.
The Arnold & Porter pro bono team is being led by senior pro bono counsel John A. Freedman and includes senior attorney Jeremy Karpatkin.
