Application Developer
The Information Technology Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for an Application Developer. The Application Developer is responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining the firm’s application stack. This position is part of the application development team which develops in-house web, mobile, and desktop applications and customizations to existing business applications to meet the firm’s specific needs. The Application Developer will assist in driving the firm to meet these goals. The Application Developer may work a hybrid work schedule in our Chicago, Denver, Houston, New York, or Washington, DC office or may work 100% virtual/remote in a firm-approved U.S. state as part of the “Gideon” office.
Qualified candidates must have experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimal supervision. The application developer must be an enthusiastic problem solver, attentive to details, and passionate about making an impact on the business.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Creating custom web, mobile, and SaaS-hosted applications in line with the requirements outlined by business stakeholders and management, adhering to industry standards while establishing best practices.
- Designing and developing solutions using Microsoft Office 365 stack including, but not limited to, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Form, Automate, Power Apps, PowerBI, and Graph.
- Developing custom solutions using modern Microsoft development platforms including .NET, Power Platform, SQL, and Azure Data Services.
- Developing and managing integrations and data flows using cloud-hybrid Enterprise Integration platforms
- Designing and developing UI, cross-browser functions, data structure, and backend relational database tables as part of application solutions.
- Developing solutions by leveraging cutting edge cloud services including Azure OpenAI.
- Developing responsive web applications for various screen resolutions including mobile devices.
- Troubleshooting complex web application and SharePoint application problems including client environments, application configuration, user permissions, and data accuracy.
- Resolving application outages, monitoring production applications, and supporting day-to-day escalated users’ application issues.
- Ensuring seamless integration with third-party applications and data feeds from key business systems.
- Defining requirements for hardware platforms, including required resources and projected growth for applications.
- Serving as subject matter expert and technical liaison to business for custom applications and Cloud Applications.
- Documenting and maintaining system configurations, application settings, and code changes.
- Working with the training team to develop appropriate application training resources for end-users.
- Providing the technical specification and implementation of integrations with cloud based applications.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience analyzing, designing, developing, and troubleshooting enterprise web application experience. Hands-on work experience in the troubleshooting and support of enterprise applications will also be considered.
- Four year college degree required, equivalent experience will be considered.
- Microsoft Certifications are a plus.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in web application, scripting or Power Platform development and SDLC methodologies.
- Minimum of three (3) years of working experience with enterprise-wide application including, but not limited to .NET, Azure Stack, SharePoint, and M365 Cloud Applications.
- Working Experience in Office 365 stack - Microsoft Graph API, SharePoint Online, Power Apps, Power Automate, Forms, and PowerBI.
- Experience in developing web applications (HTML, ASP.NET, CSS, XML, JavaScript) is a plus.
- Experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python is a plus.
- Knowledge of Client Side Programming libraries such as JQuery, React, Knockout, JavaScript, AngularJS is a plus.
- Knowledge of UI/UX design and responsive design concepts.
- Experience in developing and using REST-based APIs are a plus.
- In-depth experience in site template customization, site definition customizations, content management, collaboration, workflow, custom web parts, reports, master pages, features, Excel Services, InfoPath forms, and handshake.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps or GitHub for source control is a plus.
- Experience in applying software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, configuration, development, and unit testing using Microsoft technologies.
- Experience with relational database design, T-SQL query, and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), PowerBI is a plus.
- In-depth experience in content management, collaboration and social media tools and techniques is a plus.
- High-level understanding of Active Directory, AD security, TCP/IP, DNS, Load Balancers, Firewall, and SMTP.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements and processes into effective SharePoint solutions.
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite and/or related software.
- Possess strong technical, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and programming skills.
- Team player with ability to work with multiple vendors and internal departments.
- Ability and confidence to work with all levels within the firm.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and demonstrate strategic focus.
- Possess exceptional judgement and professionalism.
- Ability to define goals and follow through to achieve results.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively as well as handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent organization and communications skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while exhibiting a strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional client service both internal and external.
