Practice Support Services comprises a large group of diverse legal professionals with varying levels of experience who share one goal: to provide the best support possible to the firm's attorneys and clients. These professionals perform challenging work in a fast-paced environment across all of the firm's practice groups, under the direct supervision of the firm’s attorneys. Many have substantial contact with firm clients and co-counsel.
Paralegals and Specialists
Case Managers, Specialists, Transaction Analysts, Senior Paralegals, and Paralegals
Case managers, specialists, transaction analysts, senior paralegals, and paralegals have extensive experience managing large, complex litigations and transactions, regulatory investigations and/or discovery/due diligence projects. They frequently manage teams of paralegals or multiple matters for clients or practice areas. In some cases, these individuals may be the firm's primary administrative contact with the client, leveraging their deep experience in their particular practice areas. Hiring standards for these non-attorney professionals are rigorous. We seek top-notch academic credentials and excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills. Candidates who bring relevant experience to the firm are of particular interest.
Case Assistants and Transaction Assistants
Case assistants and transaction assistants are recent college graduates, trained under the supervision of attorneys, specialists, case managers, paralegals, and senior paralegals. These professionals work on a variety of litigation, regulatory, and transactional matters. Like their more senior counterparts, hiring standards for case assistants and transaction assistants are rigorous. We seek top-notch academic credentials and excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills. Candidates who bring relevant experience to the firm are of particular interest.
IP Prosecution and Administration
Patent Law Clerks and Agents
Patent law clerks and patent agents have expertise in technological fields. Many are part-time law students with advanced scientific or engineering degrees who wish to practice intellectual property/patent law after graduating from law school. Patent agents are registered practitioners before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Our patent law clerks and patent agents gain practical, hands-on experience in a challenging, dynamic practice area. Many of our patent law clerks and patent agents continue their careers as attorneys at Arnold & Porter after graduating law school.
IP Specialists
IP Specialists assist in securing and managing patents, trademarks, and copyrights by preparing, filing, docketing, and prosecuting applications through the U.S. and international patent and trademark offices. At Arnold & Porter, IP Specialists include our teams of Patent Prosecution Specialists, International Patent Prosecution Specialists, IP Docketing Specialists, Trademark Specialists, and Patent/Trademark Client Liaisons.

The Managing Attorney and docket clerks provide a wide array of support to attorneys, paralegals, and firm clients. Typical projects include procedural consultation and advice, filing and court services, centralized docketing, and litigation monitoring.
