Arnold & Porter is seeking a Senior Policy Specialist for the Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group in the Washington, DC office. The position will focus on policy issues supporting the trade and technology lobbying teams, though other issues may arise as needed. 

The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group is Chambers-rated as one of the top legislative practices at a national law firm. The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group is comprised of approximately 40 people and works in a high-energy, fast-paced environment that rewards initiative and teamwork in the pursuit of quality client service. The primary focus of the group is on Congressional and regulatory advocacy on topics including appropriations and federal funding, education, technology, environmental and energy, financial services, foreign relations, defense, healthcare and life sciences, tax, telecommunications, trade, transportation, and veterans. Clients include globally recognized brands, Fortune 500 companies, leading associations, educational institutions, foundations, units of local government, innovative start-ups, healthcare systems, foreign governments, and coalitions.  

The trade and technology lobbying team’s clients include from startups to large multinational companies.  The Senior Policy Specialist position will work on a variety of policy issues, including trade and technology policy developments; tariffs, export controls, and sanctions; policies relating to free trade agreements, the USMCA review, and trade enforcement efforts; supporting antidumping and countervailing duty cases; privacy; Section 230; artificial intelligence; appropriations; the National Defense Authorization Act;  and related agency actions.

Qualified candidates for this position will have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working in federal legislative and public policy roles, including work in Congress, the Executive Branch, a trade association, interest group, or corporation in government relations.  

All applicants should have a four-year degree, excellent academic credentials, and references. All Senior Policy Specialists will be required to be registered lobbyists under the Lobbying Disclosure Act.

Please submit a cover letter, resume, transcripts, and a 3-5 page writing sample on an advocacy-based topic of their choosing. Submitting a writing sample of more than 5 pages or failing to submit a transcript will eliminate a candidate from consideration.   

The anticipated base salary for this position is $90,000 to $140,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
