Judge Joseph A. Greenaway is a distinguished jurist who brings a unique breadth and depth of experience to the practice of law. In addition to his thirteen years as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and an equally long tenure on the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, Judge Greenaway served earlier in his career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (including as Chief of Narcotics); as in-house counsel at Johnson & Johnson; and in private practice at a New York-based law firm.
Judge Greenaway’s lengthy term as a highly regarded judge at the trial and appellate level has given him a deep understanding of all aspects of litigation and broad exposure to the full array of matters that come before the federal courts. As a result, he brings unmatched experience to his representation of clients facing or involved in every phase of complex commercial and criminal litigation. And he relies on that same expertise to advise board of directors and executives of public, private, and non-profit institutions in matters of great sensitivity; to conduct internal investigations; and to arbitrate and mediate high-stakes disputes.
Judge Greenaway has served as a lecturer at Harvard Law School and an Adjunct Professor at Cardozo School of Law, and was previously an Adjunct Professor at both Columbia University and Rutgers School of Law.
Judge Greenaway has been repeatedly recognized for his scholarship and his public service throughout his career. His accolades include the Columbia University Medal of Excellence; the William J. Brennan, Jr. Award from the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey; the Garden State Bar Association’s Distinguished Jurist Award; Columbia College’s John Jay Award, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Award of Excellence; and the Leaders and Legends Award from the YMWCA of Newark.
