Biden Administration’s China Investment Rules Pose New Challenges for Private Sector

Deborah Curtis, White Collar Defense & Investigations partner, was recently quoted in the Bloomberg article, “Biden’s China Investment Rules Mean More Data for US Spies to Tap.” The article discusses the Biden Administration’s executive order restricting investments in Chinese technologies and what this means for the relationship between U.S. intelligence agencies and the private sector.

The executive order also requires companies investing in Chinese technology sectors to share those details with the U.S. government. Curtis, former deputy general counsel for the CIA, noted that this information would assist the intelligence community in shifting its monitoring focus toward new technologies — such as semiconductors, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence — that might threaten national security.
