Deborah Curtis, Former Deputy GC for Litigation and Investigations at CIA, Weighs in on DOJ’s National Security Emphasis for Law360
White Collar Defense & Investigations partner Deborah Curtis was featured in the Law360 article, “What DOJ's New National Security Obsession Means For Attys.”
Curtis recounted working at the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division — as a trial attorney and later as deputy chief of the Counterespionage Section — when most U.S. Attorneys’ offices were primarily focused on pursuing terrorists and spies. Shifting geopolitical tensions, coupled with a technological arms race between the U.S., China, and Russia, have driven the government’s increased emphasis on corporate crime and national security.
According to Curtis, the trend is “here to stay” because national security is among the few bipartisan issues in Washington, D.C. “It's one thing the Hill can agree on — for different reasons sometimes — but they come together on this,” she said.
