Former Assistant State Attorney General Judah Prero Weighs in on New Mexico’s PFAS Legislation in Chemical Watch

Judah Prero, firm’s Environmental counsel and former Assistant State Attorney General at the Maryland Department of the Environment, was recently quoted in the Chemical Watch article, “New Mexico enacts US’s third sweeping PFAS in products ban.” The piece discussed the state’s new PFAS legislation, which notably includes an exemption for fluoropolymers.

Prero called the exemption a “welcome addition,” emphasizing that it reflects fluoropolymers' widespread use, safety profile, and lack of viable alternatives. He also noted that it would “behoove California to pay close attention” to implementation challenges faced by other states enacting PFAS bans. “Hopefully California and other jurisdictions will indeed take note and make truly risk-based policy decisions,” he said.
