Arnold & Porter Featured in Law Week Colorado’s ‘Top Verdicts’
Arnold & Porter’s case against the City and County of Denver, in which a jury awarded US$14 million to 12 protesters who were injured by police using tear gas, pepper spray, and other “less-lethal” weapons during the 2020 protests following the death of George Floyd, was named a “Top Verdict” of 2022 by Law Week Colorado.
The annual report lists the largest and most significant verdicts and settlements in Colorado from the previous year, and it is a valuable resource for those in the legal industry tracking trends and staying up-to-date on the latest developments in high-profile cases in the state. The verdict is particularly significant for being the first trial in the United States over the use of force by police against protestors during the 2020 protests.
The Arnold & Porter team was led by partner Matt Douglas—named in Law Week Colorado’s 2023 “Top Litigators” and recognized as a “Litigator of the Week” by The American Lawyer for his work in the case—senior counsel Ed Aro, and partners Reeves Anderson and Diana Sterk. The team also included senior associates Patrick Reidy and Mike Sebba, and associates Brian Williams, Mindy Gorin, and Andreas Moffett. Arnold & Porter was recognized for its work on the case with the ACLU’s 2022 Edward Sherman Award, which honors “outstanding legal work on behalf of furthering civil liberties in Colorado."
