$2 Billion Acquisition of Amil Recognized at The M&A Advisor’s International M&A Awards
The M&A Advisor recently honored the $2 billion acquisition of Amil, where Arnold & Porter played a key advisory role for buyer Jose Seripieri Filho (known as Júnior), with the “Cross Border Deal of the Year ($1B To $10B)” award at its 15th Annual International M&A Awards. The ceremony highlighted the leading transactions, restructurings, products and services, and firms that influence markets across multiple countries.
The deal, which marked the largest acquisition by an individual in Brazil’s history, positioned Júnior for a strategic re-entry into the healthcare market. The leveraged buyout transaction involved acquiring Amil, a leading healthcare operator with 31 hospitals and over 3.1 million customers, from United Health and included R$2 billion in equity and R$9 billion in assumed liabilities. With new leadership in place, Amil was set for transformation and the transaction represented bolstered prospects for growth and innovation in Brazil’s healthcare sector.
